Celebrities often play an important role in helping the dying person, especially the dying child, fulfill his last wish. Actors, singers, ministers, politicians, and athletes are frequently involved with telethons, appearances, fundraisers, and personal visitations to provide support for the terminally ill. Although there has been an increasingly negative concept of the professional athlete in recent years, I have found the opposite to be true in my clinical experience with dying children.
