Diffraction patterns for the oblique incidence gratings

A coarse grating and a narrow laser beam demonstrate a pattern of diffraction beads perpendicular to both the direction of rulings and the direction of the incident light. As the angle of incidence is changed, with the rulings still perpendicular to the incident light, the beads in the pattern separate along the same straight line. In contrast, we describe what is observed when the grating is rotated perpendicular to the above. The bead pattern now forms the arc of a circle. We derive the expressions for the patterns and present photographic illustrations.
