The editors deeply regret that a dislocation of type which occurred after page proof had been approved led to a serious scrambling of lines in the article by Professor Ibrahim Abu-Lughod entitled “Mass Media and Egyptian Village Life” which appeared in the October 1963 issue ofSocial Forces. The editors and the printer extend to Professor Abu-Lughod and to our readers their sincere apologies for this unfortunate scramble of type.Fortunately all of the dislocation of type occurred in one column, namely column 2 of page 99. If the reader will observe the following simple instructions he will be able to read the column as it should have been. Count the first 17 lines from the top of column 2, page 99, bracket these and mark them “section 3.” Bracket the next 20 lines and mark them “section 2.” The remaining 15 lines constitute “section 1.” When these sections are read in 1, 2, 3 order everything falls neatly into place.Our printers are providing Professor Abu-Lughod with a supply of corrected copies of reprints of his paper.
