In this paper the machining time and coat of turning operations using ceramic cutting tool inserts are discussed. A general sensitivity analysis approach is outlined and its application to a developed cost function for the aluminium oxide tools is presented using the cutting speed as the decision variable. Case problems are discussed and a method for calculating the range of cutting speed for a predetermined increase in coBt is given.
