AbstractThe predatory miteAmblyseius barkerisuccessfully controlledThrips tabacion cucumber in 9 commercial glasshouses. Initial thrips densities (= percentage infested plants at the time of 1st predator introduction) ranged from 3% to>35%. In 4 other glasshouses, control was unsatisfactory. Predators established successfully in all 13 glasshouses, and peak predator densities were not different in the glasshouses with unsatisfactory control. The reason for the different control results may be found in the increase rates of thrips.
