AbstractSynthetic approaches to bicyclic and tricyclic α,α‐disubstituted α‐amino acids and derivatives6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 30, and31are presented. Methyl acetoacetate, ethyl nitroacetate, and ethylN‐(diphenylmethylene)glycinate are compared as anionic glycine equivalents.
