AbstractStudying the kinetic behaviour of the system 2‐ethylaminoethanol+hypochlorite under various experimental conditions shows that the rapid formation of N‐chloro‐2‐ethylaminoethanol (t1/2<1 min) is followed by its slower decomposition, the exact rate of decomposition depending on the pH of the medium. N‐chloro‐2‐ethylaminoethanol is most stable in the range pH 4.5–7.0, where its half‐life is approximately
