The most common complication in total hip arthroplasty is aseptic loosening with the bone cement interface being the area of failure in most hips. A non-cemented Austin-Moore prosthesis used with a cemented acetabular component has been used in selected patients for the past 4 years to eliminate the complications of a cemented femoral prosthesis. Follow-up to date has shown this to be a successful alternative.
