AbstractAs publicists and enthusiasts of the computer revolution continue to proclaim the coming of a new age and the rise of a new democracy, more and more scholars are increasingly concerned over the specter of bureaucatization, the rise of a “democratic despotism”, and possible dangerous cleavages between the computerizes and the computerized. This article addresses the less benign aspects of the new post-industrial/information society.
