The synthesis of thiacyclanes which has been stimulated by studies of sulphur-containing components of petroleum1has attracted much interest based upon the discovery of a number of important properties of thiacyclanes2as well as the development of new approaches in organic synthesis using sulfur-containing intermediaries.3,4
