AbstractTwo models of women's orgasm are examined in light of known neuromuscular functioning. It is concluded that both models have difficulties in their formulations concerning the triggering mechanisms of orgasm, and neither model attempts to account for the clonic nature of the response. An alternative model is presented which more fully accounts for the orgasmic response. Theoretical and clinical implications of this new model are discussed.
