In Lake Gallejaure there occur deposits of muddy silt partly intercalated with varved fine-grained sediments under about 20 m of till and other glacial deposits. The muddy silt contains fresh-water diatoms and a pollen flora indicating an open birch forest of probably subarctic character. It may be a fragmentary interglacial deposit but most likely can be correlated with some Early Weichselian interstadial. The radiocarbon dating of the deposit gave an age of more than 35 000 years.
