Nonthermal ASDEX plasmas created by injection of lower hybrid waves have been analyzed by simulating the observed electron cyclotron emission (ECE) spectra with the help of a two‐component (low‐ and high‐energy) plasma in the perpendicular slab approximation. Numerical simulations confirm the two‐component description of the nonthermal discharges and provide estimates of the population and energy of the suprathermal electrons.
