The pharmacokinetics of rokitamycin, a new macrolide antibiotic, was studied in 12 healthy controls and 12 patients with compensated liver cirrhosis after a single 400mg oral dose and after repeated doses (7 oral administrations of 400mg every 12 hours). The pharmacokinetics of rokitamycin were not impaired in patients with liver cirrhosis. Furthermore, after repeated administration, the drug did not show increasing blood concentrations either in cirrhotics or in healthy controls. Thus, our results suggest that a dosage adjustment is not necessary in patients with compensated liver cirrhosis.
