A not infrequent consequence of surgery entailing gastroenterostomy is the presence of duodenal contents in the stomach, causing bilious vomiting, bleeding, and anemia in highly sensitive individuals. If medical measures do not control the inflammatory reaction, a second operation may be necessary, preferably a Roux-en-Y diversion of the duodenal contents into the jejunum, as demonstrated here in a typical patient.
