In this paper recent experiments with trapped ions are reviewed. They deal with the spectrum of the resonance fluorescence of a single ion, the ion-trap laser, experiments towards a new frequency standard on the basis of a singleIn+ion, and the investigation of the diffusion of a single ion in a one-dimensional optical lattice. ©1999 American Institute of Physics.
