摘要:
In light of the burgeoning population of older adults from diverse ethnic groups, it is important for providers of geriatric rehabilitation to be aware of the ethical issues in ethnogeriatric care. In contrast to the Western biomedical principles of ethics, which emphasize individual autonomy and informed consent by the patient, older person from other cultures may prefer decision making by family members or other significant persons. Barriers to care constitute a threat to justice and include lack of access to reimbursement, lack of trained interpreters, and barriers to trust. Recommended strategies to provide more culturally competent ethical care are listed.
