AbstractThe use of bioethical guidelines does not assure that bioethical consultation or decision-making will be ethical. Bioethical principles must be discovered, interpreted and articulated into guidelines. Guidelines, when implemented, must be evaluated. Competence in bioethics is not a matter of certification, but of substantive learning, compassion and love.
