Abstract177 residents in Sydney nursing homes were interviewed. There were significant negative correlations between scores on life satisfaction and depression scales; this held for severely demented persons as well as the others. Scores were compared with those reported for Scottish elderly living in the community. Satisfaction with the past is just as high in nursing homes, but current contentment is not, except among people with severe dementia.
