The new familyElaphoglossaceaeis established and its Latin description is given. It consists of the generaElaphoglossum, MicrostaphylaandPeltapteris(Rhipidopteris). The taxonomical affinities and differences of the family are pointed out and the conclusion is reached thatElaphoglossaceaebelong to the stock ofAspidialesand are allied toLomariopsidaceae, from which they differ in some important characteristics, which justify treatingLomariopsidaceaeandElaphoglossaceaeas two distinct families. Herter and Ching had already adoptedElaphoglossaceaeas an independent family, but without validly publishing the family name.
