Androgen biosynthesis occurs in Leydig cells and spermatogenesis in the seminiferous tubules, but both are under control of the anterior pituitary through its secretion of gonadotropins. The hypothalamus is primarily Involved in feedback control of gonadotropin secretion in response to varying blood levels of testicular hormones. Another pituitary steroid, prolactin, also is involved in male behavior.
