To date, most efforts to treat Alzheimer's disease have focused on the relief of symptoms, mainly cognitive dysfunction. While this approach has led to the successful launch of cholinesterase inhibitors in many countries, it has not addressed the cause of the disease or clarified whether the disease process can be modified. Data presented at a symposium held during the 13th Annual Congress of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology [Munich, Germany; September 2000] discussed the possible ability of FPF 1070 ['Cerebrolysin'] to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease.*
