Histological and cytogenetic examinations of testicular preparations from a male hybrid between an Indian muntjac × Chinese muntjac showed a certain degree of chromosomal homology, as evidenced by the synaptic behavior. The male hybrid is considered sterile because spermatogenetic stages were arrested at early prophase. Silver staining demonstrated that the nucleolus organizer regions of both parents were expressed, but no synaptonemal complex and sex vesicle were observed
