ABSTRACT:The Do‐It‐Yourself Death Certificate (DIYDC) is a slightly abridged facsimile of the Michigan death certificate. In its first series of research applications, the DIYDC was administered to 158 subjects who had chosen death‐related courses or occupations; other questionnaires were also administered. Among the findings: (a) death by cancer was markedly underestimated; (b) a quick death was heavily preferred; and (c) the measure of proportion‐of‐life‐remaining was helpful in differentiating preferences for mode of body disposal and attitude toward cryonics.
