The inherited enzymatic deficiency of red cells which may result in a self-limited hemolytic anemia upon the administration of a number of drugs is relatively infrequent. Nevertheless, it has been suggested that routine testing for this abnormality may be worthwhile in patients upon admission to a hospital. The congenital defect has its highest incidence in the negro race.
