摘要:

In this paper we prove that ifXis an infinite class of flnite simple classical groups, then F2, the free group of rank 2, is residuallyX. This solves a special case of a question of W.Magnus. He conjectures that F2is residuallyXfor any infinite classXof finite non-abelian simple groups.
