On the taxonomy and nomenclature of some species from Tropical Africa of the genus Triplophyllum Holttum (Dryopteridaceae)

摘要:

This paper represents the continuation of my previous study on the group of species ofCtenitiswhich in the meantime has been established as an independent genus with the name ofTriplophyllumby Holttum. Firstly it deals withAspidium protensumAfzel. ex Sw. based on the specimens from Sierra Leone collected by Afzelius. All the known specimens kept at S, UPS, BM and B have been studied and that at S is designated as the lectotype. They turned out to represent a hybrid, presumably derived from the two postulated parentsT. heudelotiiPic. Ser. andT. jenseniae(C. Chr.) Holttum. The hybrid differs also morhologically from the species which usually was namedDryopteris protema, Ctenitis protensaandTriplophyllum protensum.SinceAspidium × protensumis a hybrid, the epithetprotensumcannot any longer be applied to the above-mentioned species. This is described as a new species with the name ofTriplophyllum heudelotiiPic. Ser. (Holotype:Heudelot 703from Senegambia, G) since no name is available for it. In factT. subquinquefidumis the only name which could have been regarded as available, as it is mostly considered as a synonym of the above-mentioned species, now calledT. heudelotii.However, a careful study of its basionym,Aspidium subquinquefidumP. Beauv., has shown, on the contrary, that it represents a species on its own. Thus, the new combinationTriplophyllum subquinquefidum(P. Beauv.) Pic. Ser. is established, its lectotype is designated and the characteristics which distinguish the two species from each other are pointed out. Finally the new combinationTriplophyllum fraternum(Mett. ex Kuhn) Holttum subsp.bioköense(Pic. Ser.) Pic. Ser. andTriplophyllum attenuatum(Pic. Ser.) Pic. Ser. are established. These taxa were described in my previous paper of 1985, and ascribed to the genusCtenitis, but were not taken into consideration in HOLTTUM'S paper onTriplophyllumpublished a few months later in 1986.
