Measurement of the content of a renin-like enzyme in the uterus of dogs—comparing pregnant and nonpregnant dogs, with or without kidneys—pointed to its probable secretion in the uterus. This uterine substance is not only increased during pregnancy but it bears a direct relationship to uterine weight. Nephrectomy further augments the uterine content of the enzyme.
