摘要:

Eleusine jaegeriis a coarse bunch grass of very little forage value. It dominates many high altitude rangelands in East Africa and thereby reduces the forage available to livestock and wild ungulates. The problem of controllingE. jaegeri, past research, and theories of its ecology are discussed. Methods of treatment and assessment are described. In current work, mowing and broadcast burning appear ineffective with only one year's treatment. Destumping, mowing, repeated spot burning, application of chemicals in combination with these mechanical treatments, and reseeding are not economical under the present level of land use. However, destumping or dalapon at 5 kg/ha appear to be effective in reducingE. jaegeriwhile encouraging desirable forage species. Future research should be directed toward control by repetitive broadcast burning with proper livestock management, mowing with litter removal, application of fertilizer, and low volume herbicide treatment combined with burning.
