We describe theab initioNo‐Core Shell Model, in which the effective Hamiltonians are derived microscopically from realistic nucleon‐nucleon potentials, as a function of the finite harmonic‐oscillator basis space. We give results for theA= 3 nucleon system to demonstrate the viability of the technique. Extending our approach top‐shell nuclei, we present some of our latest results. © 2002 American Institute of Physics
