The environment in which the oncology clinical nurse specialist practices is often an influencing factor in role performance. Hence, with a variety of setting options, oncology clinical nurse specialists may function with minimal role similarities. Although this cannot be avoided completely, guidelines for more complementary role delineation are needed, regardless of practice setting. Cancer-specific role components, strategies for successful delivery of the role, organizational considerations, and marketing suggestions for oncology clinical nurse specialist practice are described.
