Some aspects of the kinetic theory of transport coefficients are discussed in terms of simplified models. These models are a gas of one-dimensional rods and a gas ofd-dimensional rigid parallel “cubes.” The collision process is taken to be such that two molecules exchange velocities upon collision. For these models the elementary mean-free-path results are exact, up to an unknown factor of order unity appearing in a correction term.
