In 6 female patients with urinary incontinence who underwent a detailed urodynamic evaluation, the urethral pressure profiles assumed a characteristic biphasic shape. The biphasic pressure profile was in sharp contrast to the nearly bell-shaped curve seen in normal patients. In these 6 patients, a significant decrease in the urethral pressure was observed at the anatomic location of the diverticular orifice. This study assisted in the diagnosis of urethral diverticula, which was later confirmed by urethroscopy and positive-pressure urethrography.
