The Journal of Ambulatory Care Management presents the original publication of the proceedings of the Conference on Primary Care Delivery, Education and Research in Teaching Hospitals. This national conference was sponsored by the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in New York and presented by the Department of Ambulatory Care Services, North Central Bronx Hospital (NCBH), September 28–30, 1977. The proceedings are being published in three parts. The first installment, “Delivery of Services,” appeared in JACM 2:1, February 1979. The second installment, “Education,” appeared in JACM 2:2, May 1979. The third and final installment, “Research,” appearing in this issue, is divided into several parts. The first section concerns research to determine what primary care really means, how it can be planned and how its delivery can be evaluated. The second section discusses the conduct of research in a primary care teaching setting, and the third presents specific areas that must be researched in order to evaluate primary care effectiveness. A concluding section summarizes the entire symposium and presents two brief reports on workshops.
