This approach to hypertension has important clinical implications: recognition that in an individual patient the blood pressure elevation is primarily sustained by one or the other of two constantly interacting components—vasoconstriction or volume excess—can lead to highly selective, more rational therapy. A new dimension is thus given to the classification of patients according to their renin subgroup.
