The result of plexectomy in 22 cases of hydrocephalus is reported. The technique used, characterized by the insertion of a self-retaining plastic retractor in the ventricle avoiding the collapse of the pallium, has a very low mortality rate (2.8%). Stabilization of hydrocephalus was achieved in 63.6% of which 42% resulted in a good psychomotor development. Plexectomy probably reduces liquor production to an extent which permits an equilibrium between production and resorption. Without leaving behind any foreign body, this technique produces results which can be compared to those obtained after shunt operations.
