A JOINT meeting of the Society and of the Biochemical Society was held on Wednesday evening, May 5, in the Chemical Society’s Rooms, Burlington House. The chair was occupied by Mr. A. Sir William Crookes, O.M., D.Sc., P.R.S., P.I.C., and Professor Raphael Meldola, D.Sc., LLB., F.R.S., F.I.C., were elected honorary members ; and Messrs. p.S. Arup, B.Sc., A.I.C., A.C.G.I., F. H. Carr, F.I.C., A. S. Dodd, B.Sc., F.I.C., and H. Heap, N.Sc., F.I.C., were elected members. A discussion took place on “Methods adopted in the Estimation of the Nitrogenous Constituents of Extracts derived from Albuminous Substances, such as Meat Extracts and Similar Products, with Special Reference to the Interpretation of the Results.”272 MACARA: NOTE ON THE ESTIMATION OF CARBONIC ACID The discussion was opened by the Chairman (Mr. A.
