The epidemiologic evidence that Vitamin E may be protective against cardiovascular disease has prompted research to identify a possible mechanism. Animal studies suggesting that inhibition of lipoprotein oxidation may be responsible has led to a series of case-controlled observations, prospective cohort studies, and clinical trials to test the hypotheses. Findings from these are highlighted in this review.
