摘要:
Insertion of a gastrostomy tube is the intervention of choice for many children who are unable to take oral feedings. The Malecot and Foley balloon catheters are the two gastrostomy tubes most commonly used. Once the tube is in place, it is the goal of nursing care to maintain the patency of the tube, prevent iatrogenic damage, and insure safe, accurate delivery of feedings once they are initiated. In addition, the nurse must help the parents accept and bond with their infant while learning to care for the tube. The infant's normal stimulation needs must also be met. A summary of the nursing care necessary to achieve these goals is presented.
