ABSTRACT:A combination of methyldopa and hydrochlorothiazide effected a significant reduction of blood pressure in 22 hypertensive geriatric patients. A significant drop in hemoglobin concentration was observed in 5 patients during treatment. The drug was discontinued in 4 of these patients and the hemoglobin concentration rose but did not return to the pretreatment level. Methyldopa‐hydrochlorothiazide was continued in the fifth patient, and there was a similar slight increase after two additional months of treatment.
