Introduction to the methods of operator-valued functions for solving some nonlinear eigenvalue problems of electrodynamics is presented. Problems of fundamental frequencies and normal waves in slot lines and resonators are considered. Some principal features of this technique are given together with mathematical background for computational and analytical results presented in several papers of this issue.
