SUMMARYGrowth rate as well as rate of glucose uptake ofC. crypticadepends on glucose concentration in the medium according to saturation kinetics. TheKgfor growth is 1.9 × 10−5M, and theKt, for glucose transport is 5.8 × 10−5M. The maximum growth rate in the dark on glucose is considerably slower than the light‐saturated growth rate at the same temperature, and does not appear to be determined by the capacity of the cell for glucose uptake.The glucose transport process is highly specific, and depends on energy metabolism. TheQ10for the process is 2.2 (15–2.5 C).
