摘要:

THIS past summer, as in the three preceding ones, the Ecole d'Ete´ de Physique The´orique has continued a program, now a tradition, uniquely its own. Thirty students, with widely assorted backgrounds but a common interest in research, spent the two‐month session attending intensive courses on modern physical theory. While half of the participants were French, the remainder represented a list of nations, including Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Yugoslavia, Norway, India, Germany, Greece, Egypt, Argentina, and Japan. This variety of students lent great color to the School. All of the students had a substantial command of French and English, the languages between which the courses were about equally divided. The School location is hardly to be neglected as a source of color. Perched on a slope of the Valley of Chamonix, it faces the Massif du Mont Blanc, an awe‐inspiring view at all times.
