This article describes a new strategy for internal fixation of supracondylar and intracondylar fractures of the femur—intramedullary stabilization with an interlocking nail inserted through the intracondylar notch of the femur. The Huckstep nail, which was initially used for this purpose, proved unsatisfactory because of its straight configuration. A bent 11-mm interlocking nail (Green-Henry-Seligson) with multiple 6.5-mm transfixion holes, currently under development, will improve the care of unstable distal femoral fractures.
