A topotype of the poorly known reptileLycorhinus angustidensHaughton (1924) is described. This specimen demonstrates thatLycorhinusis a genuine ornithischian dinosaur of late Triassic age and not, as previously supposed, a therapsid. The generic term‘Heterodonto‐saurus’Crompton&Charig (1962) is regarded as an invalid junior synonym forLycorhinusand is discarded–though the speciestucki(now referred toLycorhinus)is retained as distinct fromangustidenson the basis of slight differences in tooth structure.Lycorhinusis included within the family Hypsilophodontidae of the suborder Orni
