摘要:
Kawaski's disease is an increasingly prevalent condition seen in children. Its symptoms of fever, conjunctivitis, erythematous rash, and lymphadenopathy resemble scarlet fever. However, the disorder is penicillin resistant but responds well to high doses of aspirin. Its etiology remains unknown. In 1980, an outbreak of 57 cases of this disease was documented in Massachusetts. Manifestations such as behavioral changes, extreme dehydration, seizure disorders, and cardiac involvement were noted, posing a unique challenge to the nurses in their attempts to care for the children and their families. Due to scarcity of existing literature pertaining to Kawasaki's disease, the staff had no plan on which to base their nursing care. However, an innovative group of nurses developed an effective, comprehensive plan of care geared toward diminishing the stress experienced in the course of hospitalization.
