This paper will present an overview of the surrent status of photovoltaic concentrator system technology from the perspective of the U.S Department of Energy's (DOE) photovoltaic Program. The present and future economic outlook of concentrators is discussed along with a comparative assessment of other photovoltaic options. The research and performance status of the important concentrator system components is reviewed and the present and future research avenues are examined.
