Percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty is emerging as an alternative to renovascular surgery and pharmacotherapy in the management of renovascular hypertension. A relatively noninvasive, low-risk procedure, which can be performed under local anesthesia, this technique has a high success rate in the carefully selected patient. However, the duration of vascular patency has yet to be determined.
