Orthopaedic nurses now have process and outcome standards available for their use in planning and delivering care. These standards must be adapted to the patient's specific needs in order to be effective. The content of the standards may be used to develop patient education materials. Quality assurance activities can be guided by the standards to identify audit criteria. The standards will be refined as they are used by practicing orthopaedic nurses.
