Research is uncovering more and more roles for this cellular structure in the production of disease—most firmly thus far in connective tissue disorders, where lysosomal enzymes apparently mediate joint injury. But lysosomes have also been implicated in a host of other pathologic states, including congestive failure and neoplasia.
